In a high-profile White House meeting, President Donald Trump and the country's top technology executives signed a "morally binding" agreement designed to enhance self-policing and oversight within the artificial intelligence sector.
The summit brought together prominent tech leaders, including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and SpaceX founder Elon Musk. The accord encourages tech companies to implement robust internal controls, partner with independent external auditors, and designate oversight committees to review potential risks during advanced AI training.
"The biggest people in the world signed that and I signed it as president," Trump told reporters, framing the initiative as an essential protective measure. "I’m seeing tremendous self-policing."
According to Zuckerberg, the framework establishes internal risk reviews, third-party audits, and board-level oversight as foundational standards across the industry. House Speaker Mike Johnson, who helped initiate the event, highlighted the importance of assembling industry leaders to build consensus around safety guidelines while federal legislation remains stalled in Congress.
Alongside the accord, Trump floated the creation of a 10-person advisory committee for ongoing industry review and signaled plans to formally embrace the term "superintelligence" to describe advanced AI technology, marking a notable shift in Washington's dialogue surrounding tech governance.
