Three Detained in Ghana Over Alleged Illegal Drone Flights Above EOCO Headquarters
Ghanaian law enforcement officials at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have detained three individuals, including a female suspect, following the unauthorized operation of drones over the agency’s headquarters in Accra on Thursday, October 1. The security breach occurred during heightened vigilance at the law enforcement institution. Security personnel pursued and apprehended the three suspects after drones were observed hovering over the EOCO facility for several minutes. The detentions coincided with the voluntary appearance of Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, who arrived at EOCO accompanied by defense attorney Samuel Atta Akyea to assist in an ongoing investigation. Just a day prior, the Accra High Court had issued an arrest and search warrant for the lawmaker after EOCO reported difficulties in securing his court appearance. According to investigative filings, the court order allows authorities to search for and secure documents related to an ongoing probe into alleged unauthorized financial transactions at SIC Life Savings & Loans Company Limited. The investigation centers on potential financial losses, public fund misappropriations, and money laundering allegations. While EOCO maintained that prior invitations went unheeded, the lawmaker denied evading authorities, asserting that legal representatives from his former firm had previously cooperated with investigators. Law enforcement authorities confirmed that the investigation remains active.
