Taylor Swift Surprises Fans With "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore," Four New Tracks Out This Friday

Taylor Swift's newly announced single "Patient Zero" isn't standing alone after all. A day after revealing the track Tuesday, Swift confirmed Wednesday morning that it's part of a larger release: "The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore," an expanded edition of her 2025 album featuring four new songs, arriving this Friday.
Pre-order listings show the additional tracks — "Cleveland!," "Pink Clouding," "Babylon," and the previously announced "Patient Zero" — will appear as tracks 13 through 16 on the expanded version of "Showgirl."
Swift Explains the Surprise Addition
In a social media post announcing the release, Swift reflected on the album's massive commercial success roughly a year after its original launch, describing how she and collaborators Max Martin and Shellback took a celebratory trip to Sweden to mark the moment. What began as a reflective getaway turned into a songwriting session, she explained, resulting in the four new tracks born out of gratitude for fans' enthusiastic response to the album.
Fans had largely assumed a deluxe edition wasn't coming, since Swift previously said she was satisfied with the original 12-song tracklist and had no plans to add material that didn't make the initial cut. As it turns out, that didn't rule out writing entirely new songs after the album's release.
This marks Swift's first collaboration with Martin and Shellback since 2018's "Reputation," and based on the surprise announcement, the reunion clearly proved productive.
Hidden Clues Fans Missed — And Later Found
Eagle-eyed fans have since traced hints pointing to the project's existence. Swift had subtly referenced "Patient for the encore" in the background of her music video for the "Showgirl" single "Opalite." More recently, she planted a puzzle during a pre-taped Emmys sketch, appearing in character as a "Law & Order: SVU" detective and reciting a series of seemingly random words. Fans eventually decoded the message by pulling the third letter from each word, spelling out "encore."
The announcement also resolves lingering fan speculation from earlier in the week. Some had noted that Swift rarely releases standalone singles ahead of a full project, with her last comparable move being "Me!" ahead of 2019's "Lover." With the "Encore" release confirmed to drop alongside "Patient Zero," it's now clear she hasn't broken from that pattern after all.
Release Details
The expanded album features cover photography from Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, continuing the visual style established for the original "Showgirl" release. No physical edition has been announced yet. Apple Music currently lists the tracklist split between "Disc 1" (the original 12 songs) and "Disc 2" (the four new additions), though it remains unclear whether that signals a future vinyl or CD release. Spotify, meanwhile, lists all 16 tracks in a single continuous sequence.
The surprise release also puts to rest earlier speculation that Swift would use this fall to release "Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version)" in honor of her debut album's 20th anniversary. For now, fans will have new material to enjoy instead — leaving any re-recorded classics for another day.
