Meta Goes All-In on Muse AI Agent With Avatars, Smart Glasses Integration, and Shopping Partnerships

Meta's personal AI agent Muse is barely a few weeks old, but the company is already moving quickly to expand what may be its most significant bet on consumer AI yet.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg opened the company's annual Connect event in Menlo Park on Wednesday with a keynote making clear that Meta is committing heavily to Muse's future. The agent, whose physical avatar Zuckerberg identified as Jolly, is designed to handle everyday tasks by connecting to users' apps and services, including email and calendars. At Connect, Zuckerberg unveiled a wave of new capabilities aimed at making Muse more useful and more deeply integrated into daily life — including its expansion to Meta's AI glasses.
What Muse Is and How It Works
Muse, which launched in early September, is powered by Muse Spark, Meta's multimodal AI model built specifically for agentic tasks. The company has positioned it as more accessible than competing AI agents, designed to let users automate routine tasks from the outset.
Zuckerberg, dressed in khakis and a T-shirt reading "BUILDING IS MY LOVE LANGUAGE," described Muse as the centerpiece of Meta's broader AI vision, predicting that in the coming years it will evolve into a form of personal superintelligence used by billions of people to accomplish goals and improve their lives.
He also outlined Meta's monetization strategy for the product, saying the company plans to make Muse free for a large volume of token usage, with the expectation of eventually generating revenue through small transaction fees.
A New Way to Interact: Video Chat With Your Agent
Among the more notable announcements, Muse users will soon be able to create a distinct digital avatar for their personal agent and hold real-time video conversations with it. The feature is powered by a new model called Muse Realtime Avatar.
The update gives Meta's previously faceless AI software a visual identity — complete with a face, body, and voice — designed to make interactions feel more personal. The feature, demoed onstage at Connect, carries noticeable echoes of Meta's earlier metaverse ambitions, allowing users to hold live conversations with their avatar, assign it tasks, and ask questions directly.
Muse Is Coming to Smart Glasses
Meta also confirmed that Muse will be integrated into its smart glasses lineup, allowing users to interact with their AI agent simply by speaking aloud. The agent activates through a wake word and will be capable of guiding users through personalized workouts, logging meals, booking appointments, and helping them purchase products they see in real time.
Muse Expands to Mac
Building on previous announcements, Meta provided additional details Wednesday on Muse's expansion to Mac computers. The integration will allow users to delegate tasks directly to the agent, which — similar to competing agents from OpenAI and Anthropic — will be able to operate applications across a user's desktop.
Meta's chief AI officer Alexandr Wang said during the keynote that Muse could help users run a small business or complete work on their behalf, allowing them to step away from their computer while the agent continues handling queued tasks.
Muse Will Get Its Own Email Address
Since Muse operates continuously in the background, Meta is developing a dedicated email address for the agent, according to Wang, though he didn't provide a specific launch timeline. Once available, users will be able to loop Muse into email threads or forward messages directly to the agent for handling.
Shopping Partnerships and Expanding Connectors
Meta has struck partnerships with companies including Stripe and Shopify, signaling that shopping is a major focus for Muse's future development. According to Wang, Muse can access the full Shopify product catalog and use Lync, along with Shop Pay, to complete purchases across the internet. Meta has also expanded payment support through PayPal.
The company additionally announced new retail partnerships with Best Buy, Gap, Sephora, Walmart, and Wayfair, giving Muse the ability to connect directly with these retailers' apps. The agent will also integrate with Expedia and, soon, Instacart. Additional connectors include GitHub, Granola, and Notion.
Wang noted that Meta is also focused on extending Muse's capabilities to small businesses. The company recently opened its platform to allow outside developers to build their own connectors for Muse, receiving more than 1,500 applications in under a week. Wang described the moment as a potentially generational opportunity for developers building on an emerging platform, calling the early response encouraging.
