Netflix's breakout YA drama "Crew Girl" is officially headed for a second season, the streamer confirmed Wednesday.
The series premiered September 10 and quickly climbed to the top of Netflix's English TV Top 10 list, where it has remained ever since, currently sitting at No. 2 this week. It has reached the top 10 in more than 90 countries and has already surpassed 16 million views.
Star Miku Martineau Teases What's Ahead
Lead star Miku Martineau expressed excitement over the renewal, saying there's still plenty to explore with the show's characters, romances, and rowing team dynamics. She promised fans a second season packed with drama, adding that she's ready to get back on the water and in front of the camera.
What Season 1 Covered
The eight-episode first season follows 16-year-old Teagan Tao, played by Martineau, as she adjusts to a major life upheaval after her father's financial fraud forces her family to relocate across the country to her mother's hometown. Tao must navigate life at the elite Easton Academy prep school, home to an all-boys crew team.
Determined not to abandon her passion for rowing, Tao secures a spot as the team's coxswain, ultimately leading them to victory while navigating romantic entanglements with several teammates along the way. The season also follows former stroke seat Josh, played by Sam Braun, as he opens up to his family about ongoing health struggles, while his replacement Cam, played by Kyle Clark, grows closer to Tao romantically.
The finale leaves several storylines unresolved, including the future of Tao's complicated love life and family situation. It also introduces a new plot thread as Tao's rival, Britney, played by Sage Linder, pledges to help launch a girls' crew team.
What's Next for Season 2
With Season 2 on the way, fans will finally get answers to some of the season's biggest lingering questions — including whether Tao ends up with Josh, Cam, or focuses her energy on the emerging girls' crew team storyline.
"Crew Girl" is executive produced by Vivian Lin, Jeff Norton, Lindsay Macadam, Hillary Zwick Turner, Tony Chung, Lori Massini, Matthew Hornburg, Mark J.W. Bishop, and Jennifer McCarron for Blue Ant Studios.
